The Incident in Puri
Hundreds of devotees had gathered along the banks of Narendra Pushkarinee, a local waterbody, to witness the sacred rituals associated with the festival. As part of the festivities, firecrackers were being used when the explosion occurred. The blast resulted in severe burn injuries to several individuals, with some in critical condition.

- Two Dead: Among the victims was a 15-year-old boy who succumbed to burn injuries in the early hours following the cracker explosion.

- Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik: Expressing his condolences, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik assured that all medical expenses for the injured would be covered from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. He directed the chief administrative secretary and the district administration to ensure proper treatment and monitoring of the injured.
- Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed sorrow over the accident. He wished for the swift recovery of those under treatment and their safe return home.
