Assam’s flood situation continues to be critical, with over 24.5 lakh people suffering across 30 districts. Major rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark, causing widespread inundation and displacement.

The relentless monsoon rains have wreaked havoc, leaving a trail of destruction. The death toll from this year’s floods, landslides, and storms has reached 64, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently reviewed the situation and met with officials to discuss relief efforts. He highlighted the challenges faced by the state and emphasized the importance of providing clean drinking water to those affected by the floods.

Widespread Devastation and Displacement in Assam

The floods have inundated vast swathes of agricultural land, raising concerns about food security in the region. Cachar, Kamrup, Hailakandi, Hojai, Dhubri, and many other districts are among the worst hit.

The authorities evacuated nearly 47,103 people to relief camps. The state government is working tirelessly to provide food, shelter, and medical assistance to those displaced by the deluge.

Urgent Need for Relief and Support

The Assam floods are a humanitarian crisis, and the state requires immediate assistance. People in need of basic necessities and medical care are calling for continued support and swift relief efforts.

While the situation remains critical, authorities are taking steps to mitigate the impact of the floods and support the affected population.

As Assam battles this natural disaster, the state government remains committed to addressing people’s grievances and ensuring effective relief efforts. The toll of 64 includes flood-related incidents, landslides, and storms, underscoring the urgency of the situation1.

Our thoughts are with the affected communities, and we hope for swift recovery and relief measures to alleviate their suffering.
