Ayodhya Ram Temple Roof Leaks After Heavy Rains, Priest Raises Concerns

The iconic Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya faced an unexpected challenge recently when heavy showers caused water leakage from its roof. The temple, which was inaugurated on January 22, experienced its first significant rainfall since opening to the public. Chief priest Acharya Satyendra Das expressed concern over the lack of proper drainage arrangements on the temple premises.

Roof Leakage and Negligence

According to Acharya Satyendra Das, rainwater seeped through the roof directly above the area where the priest sits in front of Ram Lalla’s idol. Even the spot where VIP darshan takes place was affected. The chief priest highlighted the surprising oversight, considering that engineers from across the country were involved in building the world-famous temple. He questioned why such a critical issue emerged despite their expertise.

Urgent Repairs to Ayodhya Ram Temple

Upon learning about the leakage, Nripendra Mishra, chairman of the temple construction committee, promptly instructed repairs. The temple authorities are now working to make the roof waterproof and prevent further incidents. However, the situation has raised eyebrows, given the temple’s significance and the meticulous planning that went into its construction.

Civic Facilities and Waterlogging in Ayodhya

In addition to the temple roof, heavy rainfall also led to severe waterlogging on Rampath road and nearby lanes. Sewer water entered houses in the area, causing inconvenience to residents. Ayodhya Mayor Girish Pati Tripathi assured that damage control measures were underway, but the situation remains challenging.

Political Accusations

The incidents have not escaped political scrutiny. The Congress party accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of corruption in both the temple construction and civic facilities development in Ayodhya. As the temple authorities address the roof leakage issue, attention remains on ensuring better infrastructure and maintenance.

The Ram Janmabhoomi temple, a symbol of faith and heritage, now faces the task of rectifying the drainage system to prevent future leaks. The incident serves as a reminder that even monumental structures require meticulous planning and ongoing vigilance to withstand the forces of nature.

The Ram Janmabhoomi temple’s roof leakage highlights the need for better infrastructure and maintenance. As the temple authorities address the issue, Ayodhya grapples with the aftermath of heavy showers. The incident underscores the delicate balance between tradition and modernity in India’s spiritual heartland.2
