The Kannada film industry mourns the loss of a legendary figure—Bungle Shama Rao Dwarakanath, affectionately known as Dwarakish. The multifaceted artist breathed his last at the age of 81 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Bengaluru.

A Storied Career of Dwarakish

Dwarakish’s journey in the film world spanned over six decades. He was a prolific actor, director, and producer, leaving an indelible mark on Kannada cinema. His comedic roles endeared him to audiences, and his contributions extended beyond the silver screen.

Early Life and Film Beginnings

Born on August 19, 1942, in Hunsur, Mysore, Dwarakish grew up with a passion for acting. After completing his education, he abandoned the automotive spare-parts business he co-founded with his brother to pursue his true calling—cinema. His uncle, the renowned director Hunusur Krishnamurthy, gave him his first break in the film “Veera Sankalpa.”

Box Office Successes

In 1969, Dwarakish produced his independent venture, “Mayor Muthanna,” starring the iconic Dr. Rajkumar and Bharathi. The film became a box office hit, setting the stage for a series of successes that followed. His filmography includes gems like “Manku Timma,” “Maduve Madu,” “Tamashi Nodu,” and many more.

Directorial Triumphs of Dwarakish

From 1985, Dwarakish donned the director’s hat. His films, such as “Dance Raja Dance,” “Nee Bareda Kadambari,” “Shruthi,” and “Rayaru Bandaru Mavana Manege,” showcased his versatility behind the camera. Despite setbacks, he continued to introduce fresh faces to Kannada cinema, earning the moniker of their “Godfather.”

Legacy and Condolences

Dwarakish’s legacy extends beyond his filmography. He introduced Hindi playback singer Kishore Kumar to the Kannada industry with the song “Aadu aata Aadu.” His unwavering dedication to cinema earned him accolades and respect from colleagues, politicians, and fans alike.

The entire film fraternity mourns the loss of this beloved artist. Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy aptly described him as an “asset to Kannada cinema” who brought life to various roles.

Dwarakish’s departure leaves a void, but his contributions will continue to inspire generations of filmmakers and actors. As the curtains fall on his remarkable journey, we remember him as a true legend of Kannada cinema.

May his soul rest in peace.
