US Deploys Warships to Defend Israel Against Iran

iran

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, the United States has taken decisive action by positioning its warships in the region to defend Israel. The move comes in response to credible intelligence suggesting that Iran may launch an attack on Israel imminently. Simultaneously, India has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid travel to both Iran and Israel until further notice.

US Warships Mobilized

The Pentagon has swiftly deployed warships to bolster air defenses for US troops stationed in Iraq and Syria. These troops have faced over 100 attacks by Iran-backed proxy forces between October and February, prompting urgent measures to safeguard their safety. The US President, Joe Biden, expressed his expectation that Iran would strike Israel “sooner, rather than later.” In a clear show of support, Biden affirmed, “We will help defend Israel, and Iran will not succeed”.

India’s Travel Advisory Against Iran

New Delhi’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a travel advisory on Friday, urging Indian citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran and Israel due to the prevailing situation in the region. Those currently residing in these countries are requested to register themselves with Indian Embassies and exercise utmost caution for their safety. Movement should be restricted to a minimum.

Labor Shortages and Indian Workers

Interestingly, this advisory coincides with a significant influx of Indian workers heading to Israel. After Israel suspended work permits for thousands of Palestinians and Arab migrants following attacks on October 7, there emerged a massive labor shortage. Indians have stepped in to fill this void, contributing to Israel’s workforce.

Iran-Israel Tensions

The recent bombing of Iran’s embassy in Damascus by suspected Israeli warplanes heightened tensions. Iran lost seven military advisers, including senior commanders, in the strike. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, vowed retaliation, while Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasized their readiness to meet security needs both defensively and offensively.

International Warnings

The US State Department cautioned Americans in Israel to avoid travel outside major cities, where the Iron Dome missile defense system provides better protection against incoming rocket fire. France and Russia also issued advisories, urging their citizens to refrain from traveling to Israel, Iran, Lebanon, and the Palestinian territories 123.
