Two Killed in Jamtara Train Accident in Jharkhand

jamtara

At least two people were killed after being struck by a train at the Kalajharia railway station in Jamtara, Jharkhand on Wednesday evening. Initial reports claiming a fire onboard the train causing passengers to disembark onto the tracks, leading to the casualties, have been debunked by authorities.  The accident occurred approximately 2 kilometers away from train number 12254 passing from Vidyasagar Kasitar.

The incident occurred around 5:30 PM when the two individuals were reportedly walking on the tracks, and a passenger train traveling from Vidyasagar to Kashipur mowed them down.

Jamtara Deputy Commissioner Shashi Bhushan Mehra confirmed the casualties. Medical teams and ambulances have been dispatched to the scene. A three-member Joint Accident Group (JAG) committee has been formed to investigate the incident.

“There was no fire on the train,” clarified a railway spokesperson. “The accident happened around 2 kilometers away from the station, and the victims were walking on the tracks when they were hit by the train.”

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and identify the deceased. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers of trespassing on railway tracks. Railway authorities urge passengers to exercise caution and use designated crossing points when navigating stations and avoid walking on the tracks at all times.

The Railways has been requested to establish a helpline number for further assistance. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased during this difficult time. Safety measures and awareness around railway tracks remain crucial to prevent such unfortunate accidents.
