Vikrant Massey Apologizes for Controversial 2018 Tweet, Expresses Regret Over ‘Distasteful’ Content

Actor Vikrant Massey has recently issued a heartfelt apology for a tweet he posted back in 2018, which had caused offense to the Hindu community. The tweet, now deleted, featured an editorial cartoon depicting Goddess Sita conversing with Lord Ram. In the cartoon, Goddess Sita humorously remarks, “I’m so glad I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakts!” The tweet resurfaced on social media, prompting Massey to address the matter publicly.

In his apology, Massey clarified that it was never his intention to hurt, malign, or disrespect the Hindu community. He expressed regret for the distasteful nature of the tweet and acknowledged that he could have handled it differently. The actor emphasized that he holds all faiths, beliefs, and religions in high regard and that he has grown and reflected upon his past mistakes.

The controversial tweet originally emerged during the aftermath of the gangrape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua. At that time, Massey had shared the cartoon on his social media account, accompanied by the caption, “Half-baked potatoes and half-baked nationalists will only cause a pain in the gut. #KathuaCase #Unnao #Shame.”

In his recent statement, Massey said, “As you all by now know, I hold all faiths, beliefs, and religions with the highest possible regard. We all grow up with time and reflect upon our mistakes. This was mine.” The actor’s upbringing in a diverse household, where family members follow different religions, has contributed to his understanding and empathy.

Vikrant Massey’s sincere apology serves as a reminder that public figures must be mindful of their words and actions, especially in the age of social media. As conversations around sensitivity and respect continue, Massey’s willingness to acknowledge and rectify his past misstep sets a positive example for others.
