Stoinis Makes Record Score in an IPL Chase, LSG Wins Over CSK

stoinis

In a thrilling encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Marcus Stoinis etched his name into the annals of IPL history. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off a remarkable victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), chasing down a daunting target of 211 runs. Here are the highlights from this electrifying clash:

  1. Stoinis’ Heroics:

    • 124 Not Out: Marcus Stoinis unleashed a blistering innings, remaining unbeaten on 124 runs off just 63 balls. His knock was a masterclass in power hitting and composure under pressure.
    • Highest Individual Score in a Chase: Stoinis’ innings shattered records. It stands as the highest individual score in an IPL chase, surpassing Paul Valthaty’s 120 not out for Punjab against CSK in Mohali during IPL 2011.
    • Surpassing Sehwag: Stoinis also eclipsed Virender Sehwag’s previous record for the highest individual score against CSK in the IPL.
  2. LSG’s Historic Chase:

    • Highest Successful Chase in Chennai: LSG’s pursuit of 211 runs is now the highest successful chase in Chennai, surpassing CSK’s 206 against RCB in 2012.
    • 200-Plus Chases: LSG achieved their third successful 200-plus chase, with only one team having chased down a higher target against CSK (Mumbai Indians’ 219 in IPL 2021).
    • Late Flourish: LSG needed 113 runs in the last eight overs, and they delivered. Their late surge ranks as the second-highest in the final eight overs of an IPL chase.
  3. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Century:

    • Despite CSK’s defeat, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s century (not out) was a standout performance. He now has four T20 centuries in matches his team has lost, second only to Chris Gayle.
  4. Stoinis Thrilling Finish:

    • LSG required 17 runs in the last over—the most successfully chased against CSK in the IPL. It was reminiscent of Delhi Capitals’ heroics in 2020 when they chased down 17 in the final over against CSK.
  5. Historic Feat:

    • This match witnessed both teams’ batters scoring centuries—an occurrence that has happened only five times in IPL history. Three of these instances occurred in the current season (IPL 2024).

Marcus Stoinis’ innings will be etched in IPL folklore, and LSG’s victory will resonate for years to come. As the tournament unfolds, cricket fans can expect more exhilarating clashes and record-breaking performances. Stay tuned! 🏏🔥
