New Delhi, March 8, 2024 — A video capturing a Delhi police officer kicking and hitting Muslim men who were kneeling down for Friday prayers on the road has ignited widespread outrage. The incident unfolded in the Inderlok area of Delhi, where a large crowd had gathered at a mosque, leading to several men praying on the street due to overcrowding.

In the video, one of the police officials is seen using force against the worshippers, disrupting their prayers. The incident has raised serious questions about the behavior of Delhi Police officials and their understanding of basic principles of humanity.

Immediate Suspension and Public Outcry

The video, which quickly circulated on social media, drew sharp criticism from citizens. Many questioned the actions of the police officer and demanded swift action. In response, DCP North Manoj Meena confirmed that an enquiry into the matter has been initiated. The Delhi Police have suspended the officer involved, pending further investigation.

Outrage and Calls for Accountability

Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi shared the video, expressing his concern: “This Delhi Police soldier kicking a person while offering Namaz probably does not understand the basic principles of humanity. What is this hatred that is filled in the heart of this soldier? Delhi Police is requested to file a case against this official under appropriate sections and terminate his service.”

Increased Security and Legal Action

Locals in the Inderlok area expressed their anger and surrounded the police officer, objecting to his behavior. The incident occurred during the ‘Asar ki namaz’ near the Inderlok Metro Station. The Delhi Police have taken immediate action by suspending the sub-inspector responsible for the assault. Necessary disciplinary measures are also being considered.

As the investigation unfolds, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for accountability and sensitivity in law enforcement. The Delhi Police must ensure that such actions are thoroughly investigated, and those responsible are held accountable for their behavior.
