Pavan Davuluri Appointed as Microsoft Windows and Surface Head

Pavan Davuluri

In a significant leadership move, Microsoft Corporation has announced the appointment of Pavan Davuluri as the new head of both the Windows and Surface divisions. This strategic consolidation brings together two critical teams under Davuluri’s capable leadership.

Who Is Pavan Davuluri?

Pavan Davuluri, an IIT Madras graduate, has been an integral part of Microsoft for over 23 years. His journey within the company has been marked by dedication, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. After completing his post-graduation from the University of Maryland, where he earned his MS, Davuluri joined Microsoft as the Reliability Component Manager. Since then, he has contributed significantly to various aspects of the company’s operations.

Taking the Helm

Pavan Davuluri steps into this pivotal role following the departure of Panos Panay, who previously led the Windows and Surface departments. Panay’s decision to join Amazon opened up an opportunity for Davuluri to take charge. Notably, Microsoft had previously maintained separate leadership for the Windows and Surface groups. However, with Mikhail Parakhin’s desire to explore “new roles,” Davuluri now assumes responsibility for both divisions.

A Vision for the Future

In an internal letter addressed to Microsoft employees, Rajesh Jha, the company’s head of experience and devices, outlined the organizational changes. “As part of this change,” Jha wrote, “we are bringing together the Windows Experiences and Windows + Devices teams as a core part of the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division. This will enable us to take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for this AI era.” Davuluri’s leadership will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Windows and Surface.

An Indian Trailblazer

Pavan Davuluri appointment is a testament to the talent and expertise that Indian professionals bring to the global tech landscape. With this new position, he joins the ranks of other Indian leaders in prominent tech companies in the US, including figures like Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella. His journey from IIT Madras to the helm of Microsoft’s critical divisions exemplifies the impact of Indian education and innovation on the world stage.

As Pavan Davuluri takes the reins, the tech world eagerly awaits the next chapter in the evolution of Windows and Surface. His vision, combined with Microsoft’s commitment to excellence, promises exciting developments for users worldwide.
