oman

Tragedy struck the northeastern region of Oman as flash floods wreaked havoc, claiming at least 14 lives and leaving five individuals still unaccounted for. The catastrophe unfolded amidst violent thunderstorms, torrential rain, and powerful winds that battered the country.

The Grim Toll in Oman

The victims include nine schoolchildren, two Omani citizens, and an expatriate. Their lives were tragically cut short when their vehicles were swept away by the raging floodwaters. The Gulf sultanate’s official news agency initially reported on Sunday that these individuals had “lost their lives after their vehicles got swept away in gushing wadi waters.” The bodies of a woman and a child were also discovered on Monday, adding to the grim toll.

Widespread Destruction

The flash floods struck several regions in the north and east of Oman, causing widespread destruction. As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Education promptly closed schools in most areas. Additionally, five roads were shut down due to the flooding.

Rescue Operations in Oman

Amidst the chaos, rescue operations were launched, with helicopters from Oman’s air force playing a crucial role in saving dozens of stranded individuals. However, the relentless force of nature had already exacted a heavy price.

Grief and Condolences

The Sultanate’s Council of Ministers expressed profound grief, extending sincere condolences to the families and relatives of the school students who lost their lives in the Governorate of A’Sharqiyah. The entire nation mourns the loss of young lives and grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster.
