Former Congress Leader Rohan Gupta Joins BJP Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

In a significant political development, former Congress spokesperson Rohan Gupta has crossed party lines and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Gupta’s decision to switch parties comes after a series of events that led to his resignation from the Congress.

The Transition of Rohan Gupta

On March 22, Rohan Gupta tendered his resignation from the Congress, citing “character assassination” and “humiliation” by a senior leader within the party’s communications department as the primary reasons for his departure. In a heartfelt post on social media, he expressed his frustration with the ongoing mistreatment:

“The person who has humiliated me for the last two years, the person who has not budged from doing it in the last three days, I am sure that he will not refrain from doing it in the future, and nobody will be able to stop him.”

Rohan Gupta also criticized the same leader for “damaging the party” with an “arrogant and rude behavior”. He highlighted the leader’s extreme leftist mindset, which allegedly led to the party’s silence on matters related to Sanatan Dharma, a topic that personally affected Gupta.

BJP Welcomes Rohan Gupta

In a formal ceremony attended by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and the BJP’s national general secretary Vinod Tawde, Gupta officially joined the BJP ranks. His decision to switch parties has drawn attention, especially given his previous role as a prominent Congress spokesperson.

A Trend of Defections

Rohan Gupta’s move follows a pattern of defections during this election season. Notably, boxer-turned-politician and Congress leader Vijender Singh also recently joined the BJP. Singh, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as the Congress candidate from the South Delhi constituency, expressed his feelings about returning to the BJP:

“This feels like homecoming. I contested elections in 2019, and it feels good to be back. The respect that athletes receive both domestically and internationally under BJP and the Modi government is commendable. I aim to contribute to this government, assist people, and lead them towards the right path.”

Conclusion

As the political landscape continues to evolve, Rohan Gupta’s decision to switch parties underscores the fluidity of Indian politics. With the Lok Sabha elections on the horizon, all eyes are on how these defections will impact the electoral dynamics.

Stay tuned for further updates as the election season unfolds.
